Zhejiang Hangzhou High School originated from Yangzheng School and Zhejiang Advanced Normal School. Undergone the transformation of Hangzhou Prefecture School, Zhejiang No. 1 High School, Zhejiang No. 1 Normal School, Zhejiang High School, Zhejiang Hangzhou High School, and Hangzhou No. 1 High School, over the hundred years, Hangzhou High School has evolved from the oldest Public School in Zhejang to the center of the Zhejiang New Culture Movement, and from the biggest comprehensive high school in Zhejiang to one of the four national famous high schools to the south of the Changjiang River. Hangzhou High School is the biggest high school located in the downtown area of the city of Hangzhou, with about twenty acres of scenic campus and forty classes. Hangzhou High School has been the Province-certified model institute, and has been named one of the top-ranked high schools in Zhejiang province since 1995. Since the 1990s, the school pioneered the educational reformation focused on reducing the burden on students and improving the education quality.
